His Holiness John Paul II will make a pastoral visit to Ukraine from June 23-27, 2001, at the invitation of Ukraine's President Leonid Kuchma and the Catholic Bishops of both Greek Catholic and Roman Catholic rites. The principal sites of the visit will be Kyiv, the national capital, and Lviv, the seat of both the Patriarch of the Greek Catholic Church and the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church.

A Church Executive Committee has been formed for the preparation of the visit. It will tightly cooperate with Apostolic Administration in Ukraine and the responsible state committee. These are the heads of the Committee from the Church:
Mgr. Julian Gbur - the bishop of Stryj, The Secretary of Synod of the Bishops of the
Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church
Mgr. Markijan Trofymjak - the bishop of Lutsk, vice-president of the Ukrainian
Roman-Catholic Bishops Conference

We ask all the people of good will for prayer and spiritual renewal in the intention of the
Holy Father.
